New #collage a long time in the making but was worth the pondering I think.

Built on an #arsenicgreen garden plants #bookcover with hand coloured papers and board in a range of mediums from pencil crayon to oil paint. 86cm wide, 100cm framed.

Every once in a while the #glow becomes the focus.

Every once in a while the #glow becomes the focus. My work is constantly shifting into detail and back to abstraction, each driving the other.

The starting point for what has now become a series is ‘The Orange Blind’ by Scottish Colourist Cadell but my piece references landscape (both the comfort of familiar places and the excitement of the unknown). This is the boldest yet with no room for error on those sweeping brush strokes.

About to paint the edges of this new canvas before loading tomorrow for @affordableartfairuk Battersea.

It’s my current favourite working size 140 x 130cm which gives scope for fluid shapes and contrasting fine foreground detail but requires intense concentration!

It’s based on #larachmhorgardens in the west Highlands and hopefully catches the dramatic scale of trees and serenity.

Flooded Wood Series (Afternoon Sun Frozen Ground) 180 x 125cm will be heading to @affordableartfairuk Hampstead in a few weeks with @hay.loft.design

In this ongoing series of paintings I capture the grandeur and changing seasons of what is in fact a small patch of woodland: a shortcut on the walk to school or a quick dog walk. The river disappears in the summer and it’s strangely quiet. I much prefer the view when the water spreads among the trunks, although some warm days without rain would be welcome.

New oil on wood panel, Flooded Wood Series, 90 x 61cm, framed 110 x 81cm.

I started this painting back in autumn but it’s taken until now to ‘work’ for me. The palette wasn’t exciting, and my intrigue in the changing waters and reflections of this local wood just wasn’t conveyed.

It has become a painting of shifting layers, reworked after many visits to the wood, and therefore retaining a glimpse of autumn within the frosty sunlit shades of winter. A constant is the luminous moss green of certain trunks, a colour I’m increasingly drawn to and which creates such striking contrast in autumn and winter woods.
