AUTUMN, AFTERNOON LIGHT

A few years ago I made several paintings that were more about line and form than colour, and for a long time I’ve wanted to produce a very large ‘drawing’ with lots of light and space. Well here it is, and the funny thing is I didn’t know it would turn out like this when I started!

This painting depicts my local woodland just a couple of minutes walk from home, where the seasonal river returns in October. The later afternoon light bleaches the colour from the shaded valley side, and illuminates the beech trees.
